Dr Mark Johnson

Associate Medical Director Clinical Productivity & Transformation and Geriatric Medicine Registrar, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust

Dr Mark Johnson is a Geriatric Medicine registrar, and Associate Medical Director for Clinical Transformation & Productivity at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. He has a particular interest in population healthcare and preventative medicine.

Dr Johnson developed and currently leads the Buckinghamshire Healthcare Lipid Optimisation Programme, which utilises a novel population healthcare tool to proactively approach patients with a history of cardiovascular disease and high cholesterol. This tool searches the shared care record, bridging the gap between primary and secondary care, and allowing secondary care clinicians to provide expert advice on secondary prevention. The programme seeks to review and treat patients at an unprecedented pace; in its first year, the programme reviewed over 1,500 patients, with over 80% offered up-titration of NICE-approved medications, including injectable lipid-lowering therapies. The programme was a finalist for the NHS Parliamentary Awards and national HSJ Awards in 2024.

Dr Johnson also takes a keen interest in medical e-rostering, including leading the pioneering rollout of preferential rostering at Buckinghamshire Healthcare and guaranteeing the provision of self-development time for all Resident Doctors within the organisation. He has presented this work at a national level, was featured in the NHSE Enhancing Resident Doctors’ Lives report and has written for RCP Commentary.
